As we were on our one-week tour across Belgium and had already spent four days in Bruges, we wanted a change of scenery. The forecast called for sun the next day, so we decided to head to the beach near Bruges: Blankenberge.
We woke up, made our way there from Bruges, and finally got our long-awaited sea view. It did not disappoint.
How to get there
The train is the cheapest and easiest way to get to Blankenberge from Bruges, costing €4 one way. The ride takes 22 minutes, followed by a 9-minute walk to reach the strand.
What to do and see in Blankenberge
The beach here isn’t the typical tourist attraction you might imagine, which means you won’t run into huge crowds. Instead, you’ll find more locals hanging out with family and friends than tourists snapping photos for social media. So if you’re after a local vibe, Blankenberge is the way to go.
And if you love the sea, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss.

What to eat in Blankenberge
While it’s not a tourist trap, you can still break the bank here — a mussel dish for two runs about €38, and a single scoop of ice cream costs around €5. Eating out in Belgium can feel pricey no matter where you go.
If you’re traveling on a budget, book a Too Good To Go box in Bruges or near Blankenberge in advance and bring it with you.
